Badger SPF15 Sunblock Lip Balm rates 3 out of 5 stars, from 11 customer reviews.Good Ingredients But Pretty Gross
by anonymous[Verified Reviewer] in San Francisco, CA on 11/6/09
Pros: Effective, Healing
Cons: Goes on white
Bottom Line: not recommended
It's great to not have nasty chemicals in your SPF lip balm, but this misses the mark. It goes on so white that it is embarrassing to wear. I bet I'd use it a lot if I were a life guard. For now I'll stick with the chemicals.

OK. Yes- this does go on a little more white than a regular lip balm- HOWEVER, for those who seem to complain about this....this is the price you pay for a non-nano, maximun protection sunscreen. It's the safest out there. So I guess it's just weighing the options...do you want it as healthy as it comes...meaning it's both safe health wise AND the best sun protection? I know I do. No, I'm not going to wear this out to dinner with my friends. But when I'm out on the water in the sun all day- YES I want the BEST protection I can get. Same goes for the sunscreens that everyone complains are too white. The clearer your sunscreen is, probably means there are nano ingredients (which may or may not be safe). I'm giving this 5 stars for PROTECTION and HEALTH reasons...not for beauty purposes!! Enjoy great protection!!

Cons: Greasy

Best Uses: Sun Protection

As others have already said, it goes on white. We only use this at the beach so it doesn't matter. I wouldn't use it as my everyday lip protection. It works just fine. I think there are probably better choices out there for our use. I don't care for the smell.

Pros: Effective, Healing, Smells/Tastes Great, Soothing
Describe Yourself: Brand Buyer
Best Uses: Daily Use, Prevent Wind Burn, Sun Protection, Treat Chapped Lips
Bottom Line: recommended
It smells great and feels great on your lips! The only thing is that it leaves a white coating on your lips which makes your teeth look dark. That's okay because u can go over it with your favorite lipstick.

I was really excited about this chapstick as it is one of the few that has minimal ingredients and only uses non-chemical sunscreens. However, in real life use it really was just too white. As I only use non-chemical sunscreens I am pretty used to products having a white cast and having to be rubbed in well. However, on your lips this product just didn't work out. It left a weird white cast even with a thin application and worst of all the white kind of gathered in any areas that had even minor chapping, so it looked weird and I didn't feel comfortable using it in public! I ended up buying the Lipcotz SPF 45 chapstick which is non-chemical and has a slight color to it so it does not go on white. It was pricey but I highly recommend that instead!
Badger SPF15 Sunblock Lip Balm rates 2 out of 5 stars, from 11 customer reviews.Yes, it is white
by Underdog[Verified Reviewer] in Bristol, TN on 2/20/09
Pros: Mild scent, Moist
Cons: It's WHITE
Describe Yourself: Brand Buyer
Best Uses: Sun Protection
Bottom Line: not recommended
I've got to disagree with the reviewer who said this stuff isn't white. It's very much white! I normally like Badger lip products. This balm has a light herbal scent and moisturizes pretty well. But unless you dab it on lightly (which doesn't give you adequate sun protection), you look like you've put on creamy white lip gloss. There are better (and clear) lip balms with SPF for everyday. Save this one for the beach.
Badger SPF15 Sunblock Lip Balm rates 4 out of 5 stars, from 11 customer reviews.Effective SPF Protection

Pros: Effective, Soothing

It's rare to find lip care that includes effective UVA/UVB protection. This zinc-oxide-based protectant is a rare find. It leaves a white coating if you slather it on, but if you just give your lips a good swipe, it wouldn't show. It also lasts well, so it's great for outdoor use when I'm running.

I almost didn't order this because of one of the reviews that stated that it was white and chalky. I ordered it anyway, and it is GREAT!!! It is not white or chalky, it is a very light white but when it goes on the lips, it is NOT white, it combines with the lip color and turns a beautiful sheer pink. It actually makes my lips look full and sexy! I don't know why, but I love it and I'm going to order more.

This balm can leave a whitish cast on your lips, but it's a truly great product. The sunscreen ingredient is 12.5% zinc oxide, which means it provides good UVB and UVA protection. This is so rare in a lip product; most just have UVB protection. I also appreciate the fact that the sunscreen is non-chemical. The rest of the ingredient list is excellent as well. Badger Sunblock Lip Balm provides plenty of moisture, smells and tastes pleasant, and makes a good lipstick base.

I got this after being disappointed with Burt's Bees Weatherproofing Lipbalm. (It makes the lips white) If I was out in the wilderness, it'd be fine, but if I'm walking in the park and just want some UV protection, I don't particularly want to look like I'm wearing white lipstick like a drag version of a Roppongi girl. The lowdown is that this lipbalm is also white and chalky. It goes on less waxy than Burt's Bees, but it has a chunky, chalky texture that, unfortunately, also makes the lips white. At least the Burt's Bees smelled and tasted good. This stuff does not smell great, it smells like chalk. I really had high hopes since it said "micronized
