I have chronic, moderate-to-severe pain from fibromyalgia and arthritis, but I haven't looked into taking Rx sleep meds. I tried this first. It worked the first few nights, but I needed two or three pills for it to affect me. I am full-figured and have a strong German tolerance for all things chemical, so that's probably why. But after a couple of nights, it stopped working. Good old Nyquil gelcaps always work, but I don't take that unless I'm getting a cold or am having a bad allergy attack at night. I tried Legatrin instead of this, and that works great. Two of those a couple hours before bedtime and I sleep well. And after months of taking that, I have yet to build up any tolerance to it.

I completely agree with the other reviewers, only take half a pill. Also I don't agree with the instructions which state taking one pill 30 minutes before bedtime. My advice, take it 2 hours prior to bedtime otherwise you may feel groggy in the morning. I prefer Unisom to some of the prescription medicines I taken for my occasional sleeping problems.

Better than Ambien and no side effects!

The active ingredient in the orange box Unisom,doxylamine succinate,works way beter for me than the active ingredient diphenhydramine which is in Benadryl, Tylenol PM, etc. The orange box Unisom (not to be confused with the blue box Unisom which has diphenhydrmine) does not give me the jitters that Benadryl, etc. does. I prefer to take just a half Unisom because sometimes I am very sleepy for half of the next day if I take a whole one. I am currently using Unisom at night to tame the itching from both poison ivy and fire ant bites -the active ingredient is an antihistamine. It helps me sleep and reduces the itching to near zero. Other times I've used a whole Unisom to help me sleep in hotel rooms or a half to help me sleep if I am wide awake during the night due to perimnopausal insomnia. I've used Ambien before and had horrible side effects. Unisom is a much safer alternative in my opinion. As with all sleep medicines, over the counter or otherwise, this is best to take for less than a week at a time. Any more than this, and tolerance begins/the product doesn't work as well/insomnia may increase.

I tried this several times, hoping this would be the product that did the trick, but not even a yawn! Another example that not every product works the same for everyone.

This product will seriously knock you out. They work great, but you will wake up groggy and foggy in the morning. They work 10x better than the softgels. I was on Ambien before trying this product and I can say these work better at keeping you asleep.

After reading the reviews, I think I may be the only person that doesn't find this very effective! I took it a few nights in a row and it honestly did nothing for me. I gave it 3 stars because it did make me a little sleepy, but that's not where my body needs help... I usually always feel tired at night, but it's the actual "falling asleep" that I can't seem to accomplish. So if you're the kind of person who needs help getting tired (ex: you feel wired at night time and lay there with your eyes wide open for hours) then this is definitely for you. But if you're like me and you need help with actually falling asleep, then I'd say try Simply Sleep or the Unisom Gels (or even Benadryl as they all contain the same ingredient) or else try good old melatonin. Simply Sleep has worked pretty well for me.

I tried Simply Sleep and that did nothing for me. Then I tried these and I love them! I have a high tolerance for meds, so the whole tablet doesn't bother me. I use to wake up several times during the night, but now I don't. I get 8-9 hours of sleep and wake up feeling great!

1/2 tab is definitely enough for a good nights sleep.
